Chief Michael Troendle

Michael C. Troendle is a Toledo native who served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves from 1993 to 1999 before building a three-decade career with the Toledo Police Department. He holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration and Crime Analysis from Tiffin University and is a graduate of FBI National Academy Session #232 in Quantico, Virginia.

Troendle joined TPD in 1993, serving as a patrolman, SWAT team member, and street sergeant before advancing through command positions including Captain of Special Operations, Deputy Chief of Operations, and Assistant Chief. He was responsible for implementing Intelligence-Led Policing and designed and managed the construction of the Real-Time Crime Center.

Named Interim Chief on January 9, 2023, following Chief George Kral’s retirement, Troendle was selected as permanent chief on March 30, 2023, after a nationwide search involving 29 applicants. He was sworn in on April 10, 2023, as the 41st chief in department history.

His leadership priorities include evidence-based policing, community engagement, and following cases from arrest through sentencing. He is married with two children.
