Idaho Falls Police Department

Idaho Falls Police Department dates to around 1891, when the town of Eagle Rock officially took the name Idaho Falls. In its early years a village marshal enforced the law, and it formally became a police department in 1895. Idaho Falls is the fourth-largest city in Idaho and a regional hub within Bonneville County, covering about 23 square miles with 315 miles of city and state streets. IFPD serves more than 70,000 residents with 105 sworn officers and handles roughly 50,000 calls for service each year. The city’s population also swells during major events; on the Fourth of July, Idaho Falls typically hosts more than 200,000 people.

Chief Bryce Johnson has led the department since August 2017, when he was appointed and sworn in by Mayor Rebecca L. Noah Casper. Before Idaho Falls, he spent four years as chief of the Juneau Police Department in Alaska, and before that 21 years rising through the ranks of the Salt Lake City Police Department, with assignments including Watch Commander, Tactical Commander, and Assistant Bureau Commander. He holds a B.S. from the University of Utah and a Master of Public Administration from Brigham Young University, and served eight years in the U.S. military, largely as an intelligence analyst in the Naval Reserve. The command staff also includes Deputy Chief Jeremy Galbreaith and three bureau captains: Captain Brian Trimble (Investigations & Special Operations), Captain Jessica Marley (Patrol), and Captain John Marley (Professional Standards & Logistics).

IFPD made its national television debut on REELZ’s “On Patrol: Live” on Friday, October 9, 2026. Chief Johnson said the appearance lets the community “ride along with us every weekend” and see what local officers encounter on the job.
