Officer Matt Nardone is a deputy with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in Nevada.
Officers Matthew Nardone and German Irra responded to a crisis situation on February 2, 2024, involving a suicidal individual on US 95. When the man attempted to carjack vehicles, Officer Nardone intervened and tackled him. During the ensuing struggle, the suspect gained control of Nardone’s firearm and shot him in the leg five times. Despite being wounded, Officer Nardone maintained control of his weapon. Officer Irra then successfully subdued the suspect using his taser, enabling them to take him into custody. For their actions, Officer Nardone received the Purple Heart, and Officer Irra was awarded the Preservation of Life Award.
