Officer Brett Usey is a corporal with the Baton Rouge Police Department in Louisiana. Corporal Usey has earned recognition for his hard work, leadership, and commitment to community safety. A Field Training Officer, Cpl. Usey is respected as a dependable leader on his squad, consistently bringing a positive attitude to his work and never hesitating to assist wherever needed.
Between May 31 and June 3, 2024, Cpl. Usey demonstrated exceptional initiative and effectiveness in policing, resulting in four adult arrests, one juvenile arrest, and the seizure of six illegal firearms along with significant quantities of narcotics. His actions during this period highlight his ability to protect citizens while conducting thorough investigations.
On June 3, 2024, Cpl. Usey’s vigilance during a traffic stop of a convicted felon uncovered a stolen firearm later linked to a December 2023 homicide. Later that day, he responded to reports of an armed subject and safely apprehended a juvenile carrying a realistic-looking replica firearm. The youth, identified as a missing juvenile, was taken into custody without incident thanks to Cpl. Usey’s composure and professionalism.
For his relentless efforts and selflessness, the Baton Rouge Police Department commended Corporal Usey for his outstanding service. His leadership, dedication, and proactive policing continue to make a meaningful impact in keeping the citizens of Baton Rouge safe.
