Chief TJ Morse

Thomas S. “TJ” Morse, Jr. was appointed Chief of the Baton Rouge Police Department by Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome in December 2023, following a thorough review of more than 20 candidates by a citizen review committee. He became the city’s 32nd police chief.

Chief Morse brings over 20 years of service with the Baton Rouge Police Department to the role, having held a wide variety of assignments throughout his career, including uniform patrol officer, field training officer, K-9 Division corporal, Special Response Team (SWAT) member, and training academy director. Most recently prior to his appointment, he served as BRPD’s Commander of Training Services, where he championed procedural justice and implicit bias training.

Chief Morse’s commitment extends beyond traditional law enforcement roles — as an advanced EMT, he has been instrumental in promoting the medical preparedness of the police force. Known for his expertise in tactical operations, crime-fighting strategies, and bias-free policing, he was sworn in on January 16, 2024, at BRPD headquarters, beginning a new chapter of community-focused leadership for the department.

Chief Morse was first featured with On Patrol: Live during Season 4 in episode 03.21.26.
