Officer Dan Rengering is a S.W.A.T. team member from the Gainesville Police Department in Florida who has built an interesting career combining law enforcement with media appearances. With over a decade of experience in law enforcement, Rengering first gained public attention in 2017 when he and two fellow officers went viral as the “hot cops” after posting a social media selfie while helping with Hurricane Irma recovery efforts.
Rengering expanded his public profile when he competed on “Survivor: David vs. Goliath” (Season 37), where he started strong by finding two hidden immunity idols and developing a brief romance with fellow contestant Kara Kay. Despite his promising beginning, he was eliminated in 11th place when Carl Boudreaux played an Idol Nullifier against him in an unexpected twist. The experience left him with a lasting aversion to rain, having endured it daily during filming – something he finds particularly challenging living in rainy Florida.
Since his reality TV appearance, Rengering has successfully balanced his law enforcement career with various media opportunities. He’s also pursued modeling work, hosted “Pop Wrapped TV,” and co-authored a book titled “Fresh Pursuit.” Despite these ventures, he maintains a relatively low profile as a family man, occasionally sharing workout and modeling photos on Instagram. While he sometimes gets recognized on the job – particularly by college students in Gainesville who grew up watching Survivor – he remains dedicated to his law enforcement career, which he views as his way of being a real-life superhero and serving his community.
