Deputy Kristin Riddle

Lieutenant Kristin Riddle serves as a lieutenant with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina. In her role, Lt. Riddle is responsible for supervisory duties within the department, including direct involvement in patrol operations and field enforcement activities throughout Berkeley County. Riddle has been employed with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office since August of 2012. She began working as a Duty Officer and, during that time, obtained a degree in Criminal Justice. She then realized her passion for becoming a police officer and attended the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, where she graduated in 2015 and became a deputy PFC. In 2021, she was promoted to Sergeant and later to Lieutenant.

Lt. Riddle gained widespread recognition in July 2025 following a life-threatening fentanyl exposure that occurred during a routine call for service. On July 26, 2025, deputies responded to Mitchum Town Road near Bonneau, South Carolina, regarding a report of a woman found unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle. After the suspect was safely removed from the car, Lt. Riddle conducted a search and discovered a folded dollar bill concealed on the suspect’s person containing approximately 0.01 grams of a brown powder-like substance that later field-tested positive for fentanyl. Moments after handling the substance, Lt. Riddle began experiencing symptoms of exposure and called for Narcan before collapsing. A fellow deputy on scene quickly administered two doses of Narcan, reviving her. Lt. Riddle was transported to the hospital by EMS, where she was treated and later released to recover at home.

Sheriff Lewis described the incident as the most serious fentanyl-related exposure involving a Berkeley County deputy during his tenure, noting that without the rapid response of fellow deputies on scene, the outcome could have been fatal. The body camera footage captured during the incident has since been adopted as a department-wide training tool to reinforce safety protocols for deputies handling suspected narcotics in the field. The suspect involved in the incident, who was known to deputies for prior drug-related offenses, was taken into custody, with additional charges under review in connection with the exposure.

Lt. Riddle first appeared with On Patrol: Live during Season 4 in episode 11.24.25.
