The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is a full-service law enforcement and corrections agency staffed by approximately 206 sworn deputies and 24 support employees, with a fleet of 101 vehicles. Headquartered at 3250 Kings Mountain Road in Martinsville, Virginia, the office serves Henry County’s roughly 52,969 residents across 384 square miles in the southern part of the Commonwealth. The agency’s mission centers on enforcing federal, state, and local laws while embracing a community-oriented policing philosophy aimed at enhancing the quality of life throughout the county.
The office is led by Sheriff Wayne Davis, who took office on July 1, 2023, initially as interim sheriff following the retirement of longtime Sheriff Lane Perry. Davis joined the office in 2000 and rose through the ranks over more than two decades, serving in patrol, criminal investigations, SWAT, and various supervisory roles before being appointed to lead the agency. He won the November 2023 election to retain the position. His command staff includes Chief Deputy Eric Hairston, along with majors and captains overseeing professional standards, investigations, and corrections divisions.
Under Sheriff Davis, the agency has prioritized placing a School Resource Officer in every county school, targeting drug activity at the dealer level, and securing a $361,000 technology grant that funded an advanced license plate reader system. The office also operates a 400-bed jail facility with work-release programs and was recognized by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services’ law enforcement accreditation commission.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office joined On Patrol: Live during Season 4. Their first episode was 05.01.26.
